RAID in Cloud Hosting
Our state-of-the-art cloud web hosting platform where all cloud hosting accounts are generated uses super fast SSD drives as an alternative to the traditional HDDs, and they operate in RAID-Z. With this configuration, several hard disk drives function together and at least a single one is a dedicated parity disk. Put simply, when data is written on the rest of the drives, it is copied on the parity one adding an extra bit. This is done for redundancy as even in case a drive fails or falls out of the RAID for some reason, the info can be rebuilt and verified thanks to the parity disk and the data stored on the other ones, so nothing will be lost and there won't be any service disorders. This is another level of protection for your information along with the revolutionary ZFS file system that uses checksums to make sure that all the data on our servers is undamaged and is not silently corrupted.
RAID in Semi-dedicated Hosting
In case you host your websites within a semi-dedicated hosting account from our firm, any content you upload will be held on SSD drives which operate in RAID-Z. With this type of RAID, at least one of the hard disks is employed for parity - when data is synced between the disks, an extra bit is included in it on the parity one. The reasoning behind this is to guarantee the integrity of the information that is cloned to a new drive in the event that one of the drives in the RAID fails as the website content being copied on the new disk is recalculated from the info on the standard disk drives and on the parity one. Another advantage of RAID-Z is the fact that even in the event that a disk drive stops working, the system can easily switch to another one immediately without service disruptions of any sort. RAID-Z adds an extra level of protection for the content you upload on our cloud web hosting platform together with the ZFS file system which uses unique checksums as a way to validate the integrity of each and every file.
RAID in VPS Web Hosting
The SSD drives that we use on the physical machines where we generate virtual private servers work in RAID to ensure that any content you upload will be available and intact all the time. At least 1 drive is used for parity - one bit of data is added to any data copied on it. If a main drive breaks down, it is replaced and the data that will be duplicated on it is calculated between the rest of the drives and the parity one. That’s done to make sure that the right information is copied and that not a single file is corrupted as the new drive will be used in the RAID afterwards. In addition, we use hard drives working in RAID on the backup servers, so in case you add this upgrade to your VPS plan, you shall use an even more reliable hosting service because your content will be available on multiple drives irrespective of any type of unexpected hardware failure.
